“The all-important question of the hairline’s location is one of the most concrete benefits of going with a qualified local clinic. Here in Turkey, with no pre-consultation, I knew I’d have to make a snap decision.” — GQ
“Though skilled doctors can be found abroad, it can be harder for patients to ensure they’re getting treated somewhere safe.” — Axios

Why Choosing a U.S.-Based Hair Transplant Specialist Could Save You from Long-Term Damage

Another question I get frequently asked is what's the difference between having a hair transplant performed in the United States or having it performed in Turkey?  And the the problem is that medical tourism is being sponsored to get patients to come to Turkey and being, having procedures being performed by Turkey.

Doctors and technicians that are not well trained. Uh, the problem today is that you can have somebody trained on doing FUE, um, in a very short period of time. But they need the experience to be able to know where the, what area of the scalp is safe. Uh, what we're finding by patients coming back from Turkey is that the technicians, uh, that are harvesting the grafts are taking them from too high up in an area that's unsafe.

Um, they're taking hair from an area that's too low. Some doctors call that borrowed hair. The problem is, is that the hair that they're taking from an unsafe area is eventually going to fall out.  The other problem that we see from Turkey is because they're charging such a low fee per graft, they have to do a lot of grafts to make hair.

it worthwhile for them and to get enough grafts for the patient. So whereas here we may think 2500 to 3000 grafts is a lot of grafts for FUE, in Turkey they're doing 4000 grafts per patient and that's over harvesting.  The problem is going to be down the road when the patient finally realizes they want to do more and they've been over harvested and there's no place to take more grafts.

And then unfortunately the patients, the reason they chose to do FUE to be able to keep their hair short, they're not going to be able to keep their hair short because what's going to happen is if you've had, Thousands of FUE graphs taken from this area. You're going to have to keep your hair longer to be able to camouflage those moth eaten or buckshot looking appearance.
